Periodontics is specifically focused on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases affecting the supporting structures of the teeth, including the gums, periodontal ligament, and alveolar bone. This branch of dentistry also plays a key role in the maintenance of dental implants.

Our periodontal care is fully integrated with our wider clinical treatments, including dental implants, endodontics (root canal treatments), and prosthodontics (tooth restoration and replacement), allowing us to deliver high-quality treatment tailored to each patient’s needs.

Periodontal treatments at Bond Dental

Surgery Room

Our periodontal treatments

At Bond Dental, preventive dentistry includes care for both the teeth and the supporting structures that keep them healthy. Periodontal treatments focus on the gums, periodontal ligament, and bone surrounding the teeth, and are just as important to your overall oral health as treatments for the teeth themselves.

These specialist therapies help to prevent, diagnose, and manage gum conditions such as gingivitis, periodontitis, and other forms of gum disease, supporting long-term oral health and stability.

Surgery Room

Laser treatments

A modern alternative to traditional cleaning methods, periodontal laser therapy targets and removes bacteria beneath the gum line. This minimally invasive treatment supports the reattachment of healthy gum tissue, minimises damage to surrounding areas, and promotes faster healing, helping to support long-term gum health.

Treatment Process

Pocket reduction surgery

As gum disease progresses, deep periodontal pockets can form around the teeth, trapping bacteria and leading to further infection. Pocket reduction surgery helps clean these areas, reduces pocket depth, and repairs damaged tissue, making it an effective treatment for managing periodontitis.

Bond Dental London

Dental implants for tooth replacement

In cases where periodontal disease leads to tooth loss, dental implants offer a permanent, natural-looking replacement. Implant treatment may be combined with other periodontal therapies, such as pocket reduction, to ensure the surrounding structures are healthy and stable before placement.

At Bond Dental, our periodontal treatments are delivered with a patient-focused, preventive approach. Whether you’re seeking treatment for gum disease or long-term support to maintain healthy gums, our experienced team is here to help.

Frequently Asked Questions

You’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions below. Everything you need to know is right here, designed to help you make an informed and confident decision.

What is periodontal disease?

Periodontal disease, also called gum disease, is an infection of the gums and the structures that support the teeth. It starts as gingivitis and can progress to periodontitis, which can cause tooth loss if not treated.

What causes gum disease?

The main cause is a build-up of plaque, a sticky film of bacteria that forms on the teeth. Risk factors include poor oral hygiene, smoking, certain health conditions, and genetic susceptibility.

What are the signs of gum disease?

Symptoms can include bleeding gums when brushing or flossing, swelling or redness of the gums, persistent bad breath, gums pulling away from the teeth, or teeth feeling loose.

Is gum disease reversible?

In its early stage (gingivitis), gum disease can often be fully treated, and the gums can return to health. In more advanced stages (periodontitis), treatment can control the condition and prevent further damage, but existing damage to bone and supporting tissues cannot usually be reversed.
